I had no ID. uh.

Yesterday, I went to head out the door and couldn't find my wallet. Over the next 24 hours, I looked everywhere, twice...including:
  • Kelsey's jewelry box.
  • The bread drawer.
  • Zion's underwear drawer.
  • Under the seat of the truck.
Eventually, I gave up. It was gone. Lost. I started calling credit card companies immediately and canceled my personal cards as well as work cards. Then I really panicked - I have a flight coming quickly and no picture ID. No ID really at all...

So this morning, I went to the Drivers' License Bureau. I got there early and found the booth under the guiding hand of the only friendly employee I've ever seen in that setting (I think she was new...). She was pleased to help me get a replacement, but then the computer said my license was SUSPENDED.

SUSPENDED?!?!

It's all a big misunderstanding, of course. Back in October, while heading to court to finalize our adoption, I was going a little fast and got a ticket. I paid the ticket on the last day possible (to prove a point of some sort, I'm sure), but at 9am of that day, the state suspended my license. When the payment posted, they failed to unsuspend it.

After a series of faxes between the city and the state, they gave me a new license. As I was telling Kelsey all about my adventure when I got home tonight, she said "Uh....I found your wallet. It was in the truck. Where you looked twice."

D'oh.

Kelsey - we call that a mother's look. Whenever someone says, I can't find... fill in the blank... I always say, have a mother's look and you will find it. Mother's can find anything.

I resemble this story, at least 2 or 3 times a week.

Randy,
This same type of thing happened to me a few years ago! But it was much worse. I got an "illegal U-turn" ticket on the Kansas side, I paid it at the deadline. But Kansas had already sent the "suspend" notice to Missouri, but never told Missouri I paid it. Fast forward 2 months, I'm driving my Dad's truck in Phoenix on Christmas Eve. I get pulled over for making a "wide" right turn. He runs my license and it says suspended. He almost puts on the handcuffs and takes me in, but it's Christmas and instead schedules me a court date.
Apparently in Phoenix driving on a suspended license can get you 6 months in jail. needless to say I was worried. I fly back to Phoenix 3 weeks later for the court date. Luckily the judge realizes the lunacy of the whole thing and throws the case out.

long story all that to say... I feel you bro!

At least you found out about the suspended license before you were handcuffed and in the back of a cruiser! I had a friend arrested on a bench warrant that ended up being an unpaid fine for a dog that got loose. They took him to jail until that issue was resolved.

I agree with Eric, I was just thinking... we are all sitting at CV... and Lou says, "well, Randy was here, but on the way back from Starbucks, got pulled over and apparently has a suspended license and is now sitting in the Hamilton County jail... we need to pray for Him..."

Me thinks God might just have um... saved you even more hassle.... lol...

Oy. I mean it's nice being home but... they don't serve chili in there...

You didn't tell me you're license was suspended when you told me this story earlier! Are you trying to hide something?!?
