In the 'don't know what to think' department.

OK, I like Rick Warren. His book, the Purpose Driven Church, made me ask questions that I'd never asked before. I think he's often taken out of context, and I'm trying hard not to do that now...I'm just not sure what to think.

CNN's headline "Pastor Snags Obama, McCain for Joint Appearance" saddens me - not because of Warren, but because of the state of the church. I'm lamenting the passing of the days when the kings of the earth would consult the prophets, not just subject themselves to interviews.
"So, I called them (Obama and McCain) up and said, let's do it. And they said, well, we'll do it if you be the only questioner, if you don't have a forum, don't have a panel. And if you'll ask all the questions, then we'll do it." - Rick Warren

"Is that you, oh Troubler of Israel?" - King Ahab
Feel the difference in the reception?

To be fair, Warren isn't consulting with these guys for direction, he's trying to give each one a fair hearing. He means well. I'm just wondering how we ended up operating as a non-prophet organization.

Randy,

The closing line aptly described most of the Western Church! Ephesians 4:11

I know how... Pastor Driven Churches.

If anyone can prove to me simply that the gift of pastoring has inherently in it any authority, and Ill beleive there might be a case for it.

Come to think of it... what about any mention of authority connected with gifts (he says sarcastically)?

Hmmmmm

no misspelling. A really brilliant pun.

This has to be my favorite post on your blog so far. I know I'm late to the game here, but my teenagers are having a heated conversation because of this blog entry. Awesome!

My wife wants to know how this interview would have gone if Lou Engle took Rick Warren's place...
