Oh great. Just great.

No sooner had I made my earlier comments about the gaggle of churches flocking to counter the claims of the Da Vinci code (and the likelihod that the rush to do so is a non sequitur because, according to early reviews, the movie is pretty stinky filmmaking) than I received an email from an unnamed* person who forwarded me an email signifying that my old stompin' grounds is about to launch into a Da Vinci series. Erp.

Oh well. I stand on my words. This is what happens when you try to leverage a cultural phenom that turns out not to be one. Actually, the whole deal is a little creepy in that some firms who have promoted the packaging of these series' stand to lose a bundle. It kind of reminds me of the ol' Rainbow Coalition theory that says controversy is essential to push the agenda forward.

*Unnamed. But not undescribed. Blonde. Recently moved from Cali back to Cinci. Worked for me. Also worked at the 'Mater Patch in Rogersville, Tennessee for a while and is a little defensive about it. Will be here in a day or so. Will probably tell me "You are not the boss of me..." about 3 times a day for the next four weeks.

BTW...

I read those reviews of the movie. All movie critics say that kind of stuff. They are jaded and look for the ability to be underwhelmed. Typically, they will have a negative review (unless it is a gay themed movie), but the general public has a veyr different reaction.

Just dont be surprised of it becomes a lot bigger than you think. The quality of the movie to a critic is a lot different than the reaction of someone who read the book and will go see the movie.

I might be wrong here, but my first thought was how funny it will be if/when the great unwashed masses make it a blockbuster.
