thoughts on easter sunday...

It was Easter today, of course, and so in a nod to social convention, I did not wear jeans to church. Of course, jeans are an anathema to some, while dress pants are to others. All I knew is my wife looked like a million bucks in her new skirt and I'd best step up and look worthy.

Eons ago, while church planting, we were so set on being a non-dress-up church that when a portion of my crowd (perhaps crowd is a generous word) arrived in their Easter finest, I wondered if they 'got the mission'. Our worship leader led barefoot in worshipful protest. I regard it as one of my dumber seasons.

Easter Sunday is an odd duck among church services. Many pastors refers it to as their "Super Bowl". I regard that as one of their dumber seasons. Regretably, many will remember this Sunday for the peak of visitors, or how great or horrible they did on their sermon (I've said it before, you're never as good or as bad as you think you were). I know, I know...we count people because people count. . It's only coincidental that we also think people make us count.

I hope your Sunday was great, that your Super Bowl Team didn't punt, and that no one showed up in a hat that looked like the floral arrangement in the foyer.
